PROFESSIONAL RESUME & EXPERIENCE

Substitute Teacher

Norwich Public Schools
Norwich, CT

Oct. 2012 -
Apr. 2014

Norwich Public Schools is the public school system for the town of Norwich, Connecticut. NPS serves approximately 3,600 students every year through 10 school locations within the City of Norwich.

While obtaining my master's degree in educational technology, I spent my time as a substitute teacher responsible for 20-25 students across grades K-8. This experience not only equipped me with classroom management skills but also opened my eyes to the diverse needs of students and the challenges educators face.

Leading these classrooms wasn't a one-size-fits-all approach. I became a master of differentiated instruction, crafting lessons and assessments that catered to individual learning styles and abilities. I implemented engaging activities that helped every student shine, regardless of their background or pace.

I also developed a 2-month curriculum for English as a Second Language (ESL) students. This experience was an eye-opener –  it allowed me to understand the unique challenges and opportunities of supporting learners with diverse linguistic backgrounds. In this role, I created strategies for helping students bridge the language gap and feel empowered in the classroom.

As a long-term substitute, I never knew what subject awaited me next!  One day it could be art or PE, the next special education or computer science.  This rollercoaster ride honed my adaptability and ability to think on my feet, allowing me to seamlessly switch gears and keep students engaged no matter the topic.

While I'm no longer teaching, this classroom journey provided me with a deep understanding of the education landscape and the needs of both students and educators.  This knowledge base, combined with my current focus on engaging audiences, makes me a valuable asset for any EdTech company looking to create innovative solutions that empower learners and educators alike!

Apr. 2014

Melissa Blazejak Photography specialized in outdoor, natural light engagement portraits and wedding photography.

Melissa Blazejak Photography was a solo freelance wedding photograph venture I undertook while obtaining my master’s degree to help supplement my bills. As the founder and lead photographer, my camera has documented countless love stories — From picture-perfect engagements to unforgettable ceremonies. Here's a glimpse into how I brought these special moments to life!

As a wedding and engagement photography specialist, I collaborated closely with couples to understand their vision and curate a personalized photography experience. This involved scouting out ideal locations for stunning formal portraits, capturing candid moments throughout the wedding day, and employing meticulous post-production editing to ensure every image sparkled.

The journey didn't end with the click of the shutter.  I took pride in designing beautiful final print books and partnering with trusted vendors to deliver keepsakes couples could cherish for years to come.

My commitment to excellence extended to managing the business side of things as well – meticulously budgeting projects and ensuring clear communication through client billing for deposits and wedding day fees.

Graphic Artist

Anthem Sports, LLC
Pawcatuck, CT

Mar. 2010 -
May 2012

Anthem Sports (Less than 10 Employees) is a B2C e-commerce and catalog sports equipment reseller & retailer.

At Anthem Sports, a B2C sporting goods eComm and print catalog retailer, I embraced a multi-faceted role that stretched far beyond graphic design.

As the sole graphic designer, I wasn't just crafting visuals – I was optimizing the product website for search engine success (SEO).  This involved keeping product descriptions in 3d Cart up-to-date and aligned with the latest information, ensuring customers easily found what they were looking for.

By meticulously updating our product catalogs quarterly using Quark, I guaranteed catalog customers always had access to accurate and visually appealing information – a crucial piece of the customer experience (CX)!

I also managed email marketing campaigns using ConstantContact to generate excitement and drive sales by crafting targeted email blasts promoting special offers to schools, Little League teams, local sports associations, individual athletes, and parents.

I readily assisted the accounting and purchasing team with customer service requests, providing friendly and helpful support whenever needed. Furthermore, I wasn't afraid to lend a hand in the warehouse, assisting with order fulfillment tasks and ensuring products reached customers promptly and efficiently.

From website optimization and email marketing to customer service and warehouse support, I honed a diverse skillset that makes me a valuable asset in any fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
